Cllr Brian Berman - deceased

Councillor Brian Berman sadly suffered a heart attack after speaking at the public enquiry into the closure of the gap at Fingle Glen last week.

He was a dedicated councillor who championed the cause of affordable housing and always worked hard for his constituents. He will be sadly missed.

Post Office Closures have now hit Devon.

A NEW COUNCIL FOR DEVON

bbsubmissiontoboundarycttee26thsep08.pdfbbsubmissiontoboundarycttee26thsep08.pdfbbsubmissiontoboundarycttee26thsep08.pdfSince Exeter City Council lost their
bid to be a single tier Unitary Authority there is now
consultation on how Devon should be organised so
that all services are provided by one Council only.
The County Council proposes a single Council for
Devon with many local decisions and budgets
devolved to local Community Boards which will
include Parish Council representation.
A single Devon Unitary would end the threat of
Exminster being included in a greater Exeter.

Closing the Gap on the A30 at Fingle Glen

Sadly, at the recent Judicial Review hearing that the Action Group had successfully called for, the Judge ruled that the consultation process followed by the Highways Agency was adequate and therefore the Highways Agency intend to close the gap, probably by as soon as 18th October. using a temporary order that does not require a public inquiry. The County Council, as Highways Authority, by resolution of it’s Executive Committee, is opposed to this action.
This is yet one more example of unelected bodies and decision makers feeling that it is quite unnecessary to take any notice at all of local public opinion as expressed by the elected County Council.
